Once I had all of the wiring removed and on the bench it was obvious a lot of alterations, splices and repairs had been made over the years. All of the repairs I made rejoining wires I used a connector that contained low heat solder in a heat shrink tubing. Over that I also placed a heat shrink tube that was also water/weather proof. I started this restoration by labeling each wires purpose which was very time consuming to say the least.
The main wiring harness (behind the dash) for the interior of the car needed several alterations. The first was due to I replaced the steering column. Unfortunately the connector on the new column did not mate up with the connector on the wiring loom, I cut the connector off the old steering column and soldered it onto the new column.
The wiring loom servicing the engine was missing from the car so I will need to create a new loom from scratch.
The biggest problem needing attention are the plugin connectors joining wires together. Almost all of the male/female connectors make poor or loose contact and are rusty. The signal on those wires would be lost just moving the connector around so a lot of time will need to be spent repairing them.
The factory tape is all removed and replaced with TESA tape which is a adhesive fabric that is heat and abrasion resistant.
