Attention to detail

Even tho every  part of a Firebird is available online  I am trying to restore the original parts rather than replacing with new. For example, the firebird emblem on the gas cap was in good condition but all color was missing  (see pic below). I mixed  dyed epoxy resin and filled the voids in the feathers with the correct color. 

All stainless steel trim on the car has been buffed and polished.  The  plastic interior parts of the car were all turquoise, I  painted them black. 

I really wanted to keep the original steering wheel with the car. Unfortunately it was turquoise and severely cracked and had missing chunks of plastic pieces on the rim of the wheel. I decided to try filling all the voids with epoxy and then painting black, I've seen  restorers on youtube do this but its rare to find out if the process holds up over time, we'll see. The center round piece was no longer transparent, it was severely scratched, cracked and clouded. I sanded it thru 2000 grit and then polished it. The steering wheel isn't perfect but shows its age and is original.  See picture below.

  All of the chrome on the vehicle ended up being stainless so I was able to sand pitted and faded pieces back to original shine without sanding through a chrome plating.
